South East London’s DIY Dubstep gang ‘Coda’ are set to release a follow up
record to their successful debut EP ‘The Breach’ which was self released for free
from their website in April 2011 (Still Available).
Nearly a year on, and the time has come to unleash their second EP titled
‘Guerrilla Tactics’ using an industry method to make it available to purchase as
soon as it is available to listen to.
‘As soon as the tracks are on our Soundcloud or Youtube page for
people to discover and hear, you can go purchase them straight away.
Why make people wait weeks or months? When the time comes they
may not have got the money or may have found something else. It’s
about giving our fans and people who dig our music what they want,
when they want!’ Noj – Samples + Effects
‘Guerrilla Tactics’ marks a new direction with the aid of its featuring artists. The
record sees Coda collaborating with the likes of Backbeat Soundsystem, Rachel
K Collier and fellow London outfit Lazy Habits, giving the record a dynamic and
broad take on electronic music.
‘As a DIY act we need to work with other artists, individuals and
business’ that are on the same level as us. Why go it alone when you
could all pull together and conquer’ Sebastian – Trombone.
Opening with the ethereal and menacing ‘Initial Assault’, it is clear that these
boys have moved on from the full on Dubstep of their first release into more deep
and meaningful territory.
‘Silent Match’ sees the boys inviting the angelic voice of Rachel K Collier into the
studio. Offering a sensual flavour, this track shows Coda’s restraint and ear for a
good melody.
Stand out track ‘Misfits’ shifts the tempo up a gear and will sure to be a favourite
on the festival circuit this summer. Bouncy, dark and sinister, what more can you
want from your dance music?
‘You & I’ features Cornwellians Backbeat Soundsystem crooning and spitting on
top of a signature Coda backbone, while ‘Ballistics’ maybe short and sweet but
offers the deepest sounding bass that your speakers will fall apart playing.
Ending this incredible record is ‘Loaded’ which boasts an all out glitch groove
fest with a bit of haunting trombone deep in the mix.
Throughout April Coda will embark on their first set of performances in Europe
followed by a full two week UK tour as well as looking forward to a very healthy
festival season.
